The release of the 2015 Dietary Guidelines leaves many wondering about the similarities and differences between the new ones and those it replaced. As nutrition professionals we're frequently asked their purpose, and why these guidelines differ from each half-decade previous ones. The answer is simple, and it's up to us to explain it in terms the public will understand. For instance, what's more, what's limit, what's less? And then of course, the eternal, "but why...?"
My answers to these questions don't include much detail as that what most people, unless sitting across from you for a session or class don't want to hear. They just want the quick clarification. I recommend the following short answers
