As a member of senior and executive management in major healthcare companies Digna promoted the profession as an indispensable component of the healthcare team, and increased the number of registered dietitians and dietetic technicians employed by the companies. Moreover, during that time she justified increases in wages and benefits for dietetic practitioners showing the benefits in quality of care and financial compliance achieved by their work.
Digna created and hosted one of the first on-line professional forums, RDForum in the late 1980s, using MSN Groups, dedicated to providing networking opportunities, mentoring, informal education, references, forms, policies and procedures, and answers to member questions. This forum fell prey to the MSN Groups cancellation after over 5 years of successful activity. She still freely provides support and mentors her peers in addition to managing her business.
Learning new skills is essential to professional development, whether those skills are acquired through formal or informal education or hands-on practice. Digna believes that daily reading of new materials maintains skills current, and stays abreast reading professional journals and publications and the most recent research findings.
