Years ago Fats Domino had a song titled Blueberry Hill. In the song there is a line that says, "I found my friend on Blueberry Hill". It really doesn't matter is your don't know who Fats Domino was. What does matter is that you find your friend on Blueberry Hill and that friend is the blueberry. Blueberries are one of those unique foods because it's color is blue. Not many foods can make that claim. The color blue is refreshing, cool, and clean. Blue is associated with spirituality, serenity, truth, communication, revelation, trust, and faith. Its effect is calming and instills gentleness. Blue can be used to counteract restlessness, agitation, and insomnia. Blue foods are often rich in flavonoids. Blue is not always a good color for decorating a social area due to its quieting, cooling effect. Blueberries are low infat. A one-cup serving contains only 80 calories and vitrually no fat. They are full of dietary fiber. A handful of blueberries helps to satisfy the recommended daily fiber intake. Fiber helps keep the body regular, the heart healthy, and the cholesterol in check. Blueberries are full of phytonutrients. Research suggests there are anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properities that may help chronic conditions. They are packed with VItamin C and one serving contains about 25% of one's daily requirement of Vitamin C.
